Korean and German, and the Markers Panel Catches Up

The map speaks ten languages now. Korean and German join on the same terms as the other eight: the boss and creature names come out of the game's own text, and the handful the game keeps out of those tables (the damage types, the map names, the words that only ever appear on a screen) come from reading the game one panel at a time in each language. That is 172 names and 123 interface strings per language, matched entry by entry against the eight already here.

A choice that was never a choice

If your browser is set to German and you came here before today, there was no German to give you. Some of you picked English instead. That gets stored, and the rule since 1.6.06 is that a language you pick by hand always beats the one the site detects, so German would have arrived today and never reached the people it was for.

Adding a language now clears that stored choice once, and only for the people whose own language is the one arriving. Pick English again with German sitting in the menu and it stays picked, permanently. If your language was already here and you read the site in a different one on purpose, none of this touches you.

Your language sits at the top

Both language menus, on the front page and in Map Settings, now open with the language your browser asks for at the top of the list, whatever you currently have selected. Ten options and no search box is a long scroll on a phone, and that is most of what this fixes.

The Markers panel

Map Settings and Markers did the same kind of job in two different shapes. Map Settings puts every switch on screen and leaves it there. Markers hid its switches behind a checkbox you had to tick first, so the panel told you nothing about what a marker could do until you had already turned it on.

Markers now follows Map Settings: icon, name, and the switches on the right, always on screen, greyed out until the marker is on.

The two panels still disagree about one thing, on purpose. Map Settings starts with everything on and remembers what you turn off. Markers starts with everything off and remembers what you turn on. Whatever you already had on is still on.

The Stonesword Key row lost its Show switch. Once everything was visible it was a switch that meant "either Caravans or POIs" sitting directly beside Caravans and POIs. Those two are the switch now, and if you had the circles up you still have them, on the same halves you had them.

Labels that sat on something

A batch of map labels that printed over the icon next to them moved. On the Mountaintop, three of the four Ice Dragons and the Snowfield Trolls print above their icon rather than below. In Noklateo, three of the six bosses along the bottom edge print above their icon too, and the Golden Hippopotamus further up prints up and to the right.

Two labels move only in some seeds. The Royal Carian Knight label lifts when a night circle lands beside it, and it was lifting far enough to look unmoored; it sits closer now. The boss at the Lake prints to its left when the night circle closes on its right, the way the castle rooftop boss already did.

Two new pages

Points of Interest lists every landmark with the description the game itself gives it, pulled out of the Visual Codex where almost nobody goes looking, and says whether the seed decides that landmark or not. The second half is the useful one. It is where the site states plainly that Scarab positions are random and it will never mark one for you, next to the chests, which it will.

Corrections is sixteen claims about Nightreign that get repeated and do not hold up. Five of them are mine, including a relic count this site had wrong until this week.

Also

German runs long, and some of its names have nowhere to break. Halbmenschen-Schwertmeister was printing as a single twenty-seven-character line across the map, so a label with no spaces in it now breaks at a hyphen instead. Korean needs none of that, since Korean writes with spaces.

Two new languages, two new sets of mistakes. If you read Korean or German and something on the map is wrong, tell me and I will fix it.
