Marker Circles and POI Labels

This release is mostly about what the result map says and what it stops saying. The key icon is gone, POI labels can be cut back to the ones that still tell you something, and 117 labels that were wrong on DLC seeds are now right.

The key icon is gone and the circles split in two

The Stonesword Key row used to carry Icon and Circle. Icon is gone, and no key is drawn on the map any more. Circles are the whole of the overlay.

Circle became two toggles. Caravans circles the caravan slots. POIs circles the other marked slots, forts and great churches and townships and marshes among them. The two are independent and both start on, so you can run one set, the other, or both. Show and Color work as they did, and the one color still covers both sets.

440 of the 520 seeds have marked slots. The 80 Great Hollow seeds have none, and the Markers button does not appear on them at all. No seed has more than three caravans, and on 96 of the covered seeds there is no caravan at all, so the Caravans toggle draws nothing there.

What the marker means has not changed. It circles slots where a Stonesword Key can appear, and it does not know whether one is there. The 1.4.20 note has the screenshots and the longer version.

POI labels have a Full and a Minimal setting

The filter group used to be Small POIs with a single Description toggle, on or off. It is now POI's Description, and the toggle is two: Full and Minimal.

Full labels every POI, which is what Description did when it was on. Minimal keeps the label only where it decides something. A ruin with the sleep affliction is a Runebear on every seed that has one, so the word under the icon adds nothing and Minimal drops it. A plain Great Church can be a Guardian Golem or a Mausoleum Knight, so that label stays.

Full and Minimal are exclusive. Turn both off and every POI label disappears, which is what the old Description toggle did when it was off.

The list of icons Minimal drops is not written by hand. It is read out of the data: the icons that carry one and only one label across all 520 seeds. There are 21 of them today. If a future DLC gives one of those icons a second enemy, the label comes back on its own.

117 POI labels were wrong on DLC seeds

84 seeds were affected, all of them DLC.

89 Great Church labels were inverted. On DLC seeds the plain icon was labelled Fire Monk and the fire icon was labelled Mausoleum Knight, the opposite of the base game. The icons were right; the labels came out of the spreadsheet swapped. 50 now read Fire Monk and 39 now read Mausoleum Knight.

28 read "Crystalian Alliance" and now read "Crystalians", across 24 seeds. Same POI, two names, and the base game name is the one that stays.

The rule behind both, since it will come up again: where the DLC names a POI differently from the base game, the base game wording wins. Marsh and Forge are the exceptions. They are DLC-only, with nothing in the base game to align them to, so their names stand as written.

Text I had wrong

How to Use said the Markers button "only appears on seeds that actually contain at least one marker". It does not. It is on every seed except the Great Hollow ones.

The same page said the Stonesword Key marker showed "the Evergaols that need one". Wrong twice: it draws on building slots rather than Evergaols, and it marks where a key can appear rather than where one is.

The 1.4.20 note now describes the marker as it works today, with new screenshots.
